About Emily

Experience, compassion and a human approach to therapy

Hello, I'm Dr Emily Leonhardt-Tyler, a HCPC-registered Counselling Psychologist with over ten years' experience working within the NHS across both physical and mental health services.

I currently lead an NHS service supporting people to adjust to long-term physical health conditions.

Before training as a psychologist, I worked on a stroke unit and later in a hospice. Those experiences shaped my understanding that healthcare is about far more than treating physical symptoms. I saw first-hand the importance of human connection and the profound difference it can make when people feel heard, understood and supported during life's most difficult moments.

That belief continues to guide my work today.

I don't see the mind and body as separate. Living with illness, injury, trauma or loss affects every aspect of our lives, and psychological wellbeing deserves the same care and attention as physical health.
